My Quest to Find the Perfect Pair of St. John’s Bay Jeans

Jeans are the workhorse of my wardrobe. I pretty much live in denim. So when it comes time to buy a new pair, I don’t mess around. I’m on an endless quest to find jeans that check all my boxes – affordable but still high-quality, comfortable yet stylish, classic with just the right amount of trendiness. St. John’s Bay jeans have always been a reliable go-to. But with so many styles and options to choose from, I needed to do my research to track down my perfect pair.

Join me on my adventure into the world of St. Johns Bay denim as I try to find my holy grail jeans. The jeans that can take me from working in the garden to girls’ night out without missing a beat. From apple picking on the weekend to client meetings on Monday morning. The possibilities are endless when you find that perfect pair of jeans.

Trying on the Options

As an avid thrifter, my first stop was the local thrift stores to see what treasures might await. Unfortunately, the selection was pretty picked over. I did try on one pair of bootcut St. John’s Bay jeans, but the size 14 was just a bit too snug for my taste. The search would need to continue.

Next stop – department stores. I headed to Macy’s, Kohl’s, and JCPenney to scout out their St. John’s Bay selections. I was pleased to see entire sections devoted to the brand, with stacks of jeans in different washes, cuts, and sizes beckoning me to search through.

I grabbed several pairs in size 16 regular and tall and headed to the fitting room. Time to start trying on candidates! First up – a pair of mid-rise bootcut jeans in a medium wash. Slipping them on, I found the waist comfortable and the legs loose but not sloppy. The regular length was just a tad short for my 5’9″ frame though. The tall version solved that problem, with the hem hitting right at my ankle. A good start!

Evaluating the Contenders

Next came a pair of low rise, straight leg St. John’s Bay jeans in a dark rinse. I loved how the dark color slimmed my legs, but the low rise wasn’t the most flattering on my mom-of-two tummy. I decided to grab a mid-rise bootcut pair in the same dark wash. Bingo! The medium rise hit at just the right spot while the slimming dark color and bootcut leg balanced my shape.

Time to move onto some stylish options. I picked a pair of mid-rise, distressed St. John’s Bay skinny jeans with ripped knees and trendy raw hems. They were a little tighter than my usual mom jeans but still comfortable. The distressed details gave them a cool, edgy vibe I liked. I also tried on a pair of black mid-rise skinny jeans, which were super sleek and sophisticated.

My final contender was a pair of mid-rise, wide-leg cropped jeans. The light wash and release hem felt fresh and summery. I could easily dress them up or down. While not as flattering as the bootcut, they still looked and felt great.

Making the Final Decision

After trying on seven different styles, I had fallen in love with three – the dark rinse bootcut, the distressed skinnies, and the cropped wide-leg. I checked the prices and was pleased to see every pair cost between $35-$45 depending on the style. Definitely within my budget limitations!

I decided to go with the mid-rise dark rinse bootcut jeans in the tall size 16. The combination of dark wash, bootcut leg, and mid-rise waist was just too perfect for my body. At only $39.99, they were an absolute steal! The amount of stretch in the denim meant they would mold comfortably to my shape while still retaining their structure.

Of course, if money were no object, I would have bought all three favorite pairs! But for the flawless fit and versatile style, the rinse bootcut jeans won me over. However, I will definitely be keeping my eye out for sales to scoop up the distressed skinnies and cropped wide-leg pair in the future!

Putting My New Jeans to the Test

I couldn’t wait to break in my new St. John’s Bay jeans! I quickly swapped out my leggings for them with a slouchy floral top and ankle boots. I was instantly amazed by how comfortable they were while still looking put together. The bootcut was just the right amount of flare without looking dated.

My first outing was meeting friends for brunch. I felt instantly chic when I slid the jeans on with heels and a drapey blouse. The dark color dressed up the denim while still keeping things casual. When we spontaneously decided to check out a nearby art fair after eating, I didn’t feel sloppy or underdressed at all.

Next test – errands and chores. I wore my new St. John’s Bay jeans with a tank top and cardigan to hit up the grocery store, post office, and hardware shop. Despite stretching, bending, and crouching to inspect paint swatches, my jeans kept their shape and didn’t gap or sag. Comfort achieved!

Finally, date night with my husband. A silky cami, ankle booties, and leather jacket transformed my jeans into the perfect sexy-but-not-over-the-top look. The jeans moved with me seamlessly, whether we were strolling hand-in-hand or tearing up the dancefloor.
